On the Bench

One of the most interesting places to photograph people on the street is on a bench or street furniture. Here complete strangers come together to rest up, have a chat, eat or smoke. To get the best effect you need to be very close using your wide angle lens. Sometimes this leads to an interesting reaction which can be caught on camera. Getting very close gives the viewer a feel that they are there. You wonder where these people are from, what their lives are about and there’s plenty of scope for adding your own interpretation to the picture.
